Big Blog 2: Hawaiian Music

Image
Hawaii has a very special place in my heart not only because of how beautiful of a place it is but also because of how it makes me feel. I have never been to Hawaii, but it has always been one of my dreams to go one day. Me and my family have always talked about going during a vacation but honestly it has always been super expensive. Whenever I am having a bad day, I will joke about moving to Hawaii and just getting on a plane and flying there because to me Hawaii has just always been a place for people to relax and have fun in. A dream of mine is to go there with my family and when I do it is going to be the best experience I have ever had on a vacation. Honestly even during rough times just thinking about being in Hawaii helps me calm down and keep a good mindset in stressful situations. Even though Hawaii is from the United states I believe that Hawaii has its own very cool and unique culture. Yes, all the states have different things about them. For example, Chicago is very d...

Music & Family

Image
Hello everyone and welcome to my blog. Today's blog is going to be about music and family. So to start this off I interviewed my mother who has always been driven to do better and actually play music at a high level. My Mom played the clarinet for about twenty years of her life all the way into college but she got burnt out after a while. For as long as I can remember my Mom has always liked the band Pink Floyd. I remember her telling me a story about how she actually got to go to one of the bands performances when she was a kid and I think she said someone threw their underwear at one of the singers. I don't know if that's actually true though. One of her favorite songs from Pink Floyd was Time. She told me that one of her favorite instruments besides the clarinet was the drums and especially the guitar. My Dad actually plays the guitar pretty well. My Mom told me that she really enjoyed the guitar part of the song because of how the electric guitar sounded. Now for the d...

Instruments, rhythm and vocables in Hip Hop Hip-hop is a genre of music that originated in the United States in the 1970s. It is characterized by a strong, rhythmic beat and a rapping vocal track. The genre has evolved over time and now includes a variety of sub-genres, such as gangster rap, conscious rap, and trap music. The instrumental components of hip-hop music typically include drum machines, turntables, synthesizers, and samplers. The vocal styles in hip-hop are diverse and can range from spoken word to singing to rapping. The lyrics in hip-hop are often socially conscious and address issues such as poverty, racism, and police brutality. They can also be about personal experiences, relationships, or simply having fun. What earlier music genres fed into Hip Hop? Hip hop music has its roots in several earlier music genres, including funk, blues, jazz, and rhythm and blues recordings from the 60s, 50s, and earlier .  The genre was born in the summer of 1973 at a ...

Music and Gender

Image
Hello fellow Bloggers and welcome to Today`s blog on how gender stereotypes played a major role in music and how it’s evolved over the years. In my personal experience, I played the flute in the middle school and high school band. Every person who played the flute was a female. Playing flute was labeled as almost an all-girls instrument. So, do these stereotypes still affect us now in music? Back in the 1800s women’s positions prohibited them from performing music in public. The place of a woman was at home. When a woman gained a certain skill in playing an instrument, they would be called poison. These women were not welcomed nicely since women could only sing opera and play certain instruments. When society sees a woman, they are uncomfortable, and they are mocked for taking a male transvestite. As a result, many women in the jazz world missed many opportunities. In the video below there is a person named Dolly Jones and in  1926 she made history by becoming the first female...

Music and Rituals

Image
During my time playing flute through-out middle school and high school I played a multiple rituals like weddings, different holidays, and one funeral. During my time playing for each of these events I found that the most enjoyable thing was to play at weddings. This is because I like to help celebrate other people`s fortune especially when two people find a genuine connection between each other. During special events like this I feel like the music has a great role in our lives because it sets a mood of happiness. One of my favorite pieces of music from weddings is "Married Life" -  Michael Giacchino. This song was introduced to me by my grandmother, and it was played at my parents'  wedding.  I remember that the first time I heard this song was when I was with my grandmother, and I could not help but reminisce about my family and loved ones. This music was also played in the movie UP so it may seem familiar to most people.  My second piece of music is one from ...

Hi, my name is Chris Tyra, and I am a freshman at Converse. For most of my life I played soccer and I have always listened to music since I was 5. When I was in middle school I played flute, and I actually did really well. Playing music everyday was a way for me to drift off into the world and just have fun all while listening to my own music. My parents got me into music, and they always used to tell me that music is what connects people and others around them. I was originally born in Russia but now I live in Greer, SC. I plan to study Hr. management at Converse, and I also plan to continue my career as a soccer player too. Now before I lived in SC I used to live in Louisville Kentucky, and I also played soccer there too. I grew up on a country road honestly in the middle of nowhere.  1. One of my favorite artists for a while has been a band called One Republic. This was a band that was introduced in the year of 2002, and the people in this band are, Ryan Tedder  ...
